Charles Daly & Co secure emergency family reunification for family of client in Afghanistan

We at Charles C Daly & Co are very happy for our Afghan national client who secured emergency family reunification for four of their family members in the wake of the Taliban takeover of that country.

The Afghan nationals, three women and an elderly man, are based in Jalalabad and had a prior application pending with the visa office in Abu Dhabi to join their Irish resident relative in Ireland. Owing to the extraordinary circumstances of the past number of weeks and the immediate danger now posed to women and other vulnerable people in Afghanistan, Charles C Daly & Co made emergency representations to the Department of Justice & Equality invoking the humanitarian criteria outlined in that department’s policy document on non-EU family reunification.

The Department of Justice and the Department of Foreign Affairs acted swiftly in ensuring that our clients’ applications were escalated and thankfully a positive decision was issued within four days of our emergency representations.

The fall of Afghanistan poses significant challenges for the Department of Justice and the Department of Foreign Affairs, as well as to legal practitioners. The UN has predicted the number of worldwide refugees to increase to 500,000 in 2021 as a result, and Ireland has already made a commitment to settling 200 Afghan refugees.

If you or anyone you know has family in Afghanistan and would like to speak to us about a Family Reunification Application, we encourage you to contact us for a confidential consultation.
